Aisha Rosli

Aisha Rosli is represented by Cuturi Gallery where her recent solo exhibition ‘Silence Drowns the Scream’ was presented earlier this year. She notably presented work as well at this year’s ART SG fair in Singapore.

We checked in with her with a few questions up our sleeve.

Q: Your work would appear influenced by or taking an interest in painterly masters like Francis Bacon and Egon Schiele. What's currently inspiring your work in the studio?

Aisha: Nowadays in the studio, besides painting, I’ll watch movies to get inspiration from movie stills and dialogues. Phrases and dialogues used in movies are really helpful to my painting process, which are then further expanded through reading some books of similar topics that I explore in.

Q: In terms of Singaporean art and the art scene in Singapore; what might you want to shine light on?

Aisha: There’s a variety of styles in Singapore, which has a small but growing art scene. I’m glad there’s a reemergence of figurative painting, cause I feel a sense of belonging among the artists here and I feel like my works that are being expressed can be appreciated by the people here.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
